Abstrakt: This paper focuses on the ageing of a translation as well as the re- translation phenomenon. Its main aim is to provide a wide range of outlooks on both matters given by different Slovak and foreign theoreticians and other experts on the topic. It discusses other re- asons for retranslation than just inevitable ageing of a translation because of the changing language presented by Anton Popovič. It also uncovers what external factors influence the translator and how they influence the process of a translation. The paper also raises awareness of time and space which are the key aspects of translation. It concludes with Koška’s concept of a translation and his contribution to retranslation hypothesis.

Abstrakt: The study focuses on the comparison of the Slovak translation and the English original of proper names in the children’s literature How to Train Your Dragon written by Cressida Cowell. The book was translated by Otakar Kořínek and published by the SLOVART publishing house in 2006. In the analysis, proper names are divi- ded into categories based on the categorization of proper names. Subsequently, the original and translation forms of proper names are compared while analysing the semantics and form and trans- lation strategies applied by Slovak translator. In selected cases of proper name translations, alternative translations are given.

Abstrakt: This paper addresses humour in translation as a culture-specific element and aims to demonstrate that general theory of transla- tion and equivalence is not applicable to the translation of texts saturated with humour of various nature due to the necessity of orientation towards target reader. The paper also focuses on trans- lation of humour fiction How to be an Alien by G. Mikes (1946) and emphasizes the creative approach of translator – in terms of hu- mour – towards the readers.
